As the 2023 general elections draw nearer, a distinguished traditional ruler in Osun State, the Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, Oba (Dr) Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude (Tegbosun III), has urged politicians in the country to shun the campaign of calumny and play politics with utmost fear of God, maturity and decorum.
Oba Oyelude, made this advice while receiving the management of OurNigeria News Magazine at his palace on Friday.
The Olowu, who underscored the need for all Nigerians, irrespective of religious, political, or ethnic affiliations to put national interest above self-interest urged every politician to engage in issue-based campaigns, which would address the topmost challenges of insecurity, economy, and unemployment among others facing the country.
According to Oba Oyelude, “politicians for the 2023 elections should shun malignant campaigns of name-calling, bad-mouthing and calumny against their opponents as the only way to ensure free, fair, credible and peaceful conduct of the polls which is around the corner.
The Olowu who further appealed to politicians to shun every form of violence and negative comments to avoid heating the polity as the elections draw closer said politicians should conduct their campaigns peacefully and orderly to avert any political mayhem before, during, and after the polls.
