Makogi area of Ibafo ,Ogun state Nigeria was on Monday afternoon thrown into turmoil as Hausa okada riders clashed with Yoruba residents of the community. Many got injured whilst about 2 persons were reportedly killed The Voice magazine reliably gathered. According to eye witness account, okada riders protesting the hike in ticket sales stopped a defaulting counterpart and forcefully pushed the passenger ( Yoruba woman )and in the process injured her.
That act got the Yoruba residents aggravated and decided to descend on the Hausa okada rider and that attracted his friends who are also Northerners ,the fracas soon escalated to the point that it degenerated into inter-tribal clash.
A female food vendor at Makogi community who didn’t want her name mentioned told our reporters that she saw hoodlums wielding machete, cutlasses and broken bottles with blood stains on their clothes, saying many were injured and some feared killed in the fracas. She however, confirmed that the whole community later became calm as everyone has gone indoors.
When The Voice Magazine caught up with one of the officers at the Makogi police station who chose to speak on condition of anonymity he said the situation has calm down , saying the police are on top of their game to ensure that normalcy returns to the community. The PRO of Makogi CDC Prince Osinowo’s number couldn’t be reached as at when filing this report.
