The incident occurred around 4 pm on Thursday, as reported by an anonymous eyewitness who works in the vicinity.
Confirming the casualties, the witness revealed that the injured individuals were promptly transported to Anka General Hospital for medical attention. The collapse of the mining pit, which happened just minutes before 4 pm, resulted in the recovery of three bodies, all belonging to artisanal miners from Yar Tsabaya District in Anka Local Government Area. The exact number of people inside the pit remains uncertain, given its depth of approximately 275 meters.
Zamfara State, known for its abundance of solid minerals such as gold, iron ore, limestone, and granite, has seen a ban on mining activities by both the Federal and state governments.
