Emirates, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has resumed flights to Lagos after a two-year hiatus. The airline had suspended operations due to various challenges, including unresolved issues surrounding trapped funds.
Flight EK 783 touched down at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) on Tuesday at 3:32 p.m., arriving at the old terminal. The flight, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, had noticeable empty seats, though the exact number of passengers aboard could not be immediately confirmed. The aircraft has a seating capacity of 392, but eyewitnesses reported seeing several unoccupied seats.
This lower-than-expected passenger load underscores the difficulties airlines are encountering as they work to reestablish normal operations after the pandemic and other disruptions.
Apples Bite Magazine reports that while departing passengers were processed through the new terminal, arriving passengers were handled at the old terminal.
One passenger remarked, “The flight wasn’t full at all, but as always, the service was excellent. It’s understandable, though, given that it’s the first flight in a long time.”
