The Forum of Former Governors in Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a distinguished member of their ranks who served as governor of old Oyo State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu CON, former Governor of Niger State, and Deputy Chairman, Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State, the group acknowledged Dr. Olunloyo’s significant contributions to Nigerian politics and public service.
“We received with gratitude to God, for a life well spent, the earthly exit of an elder statesman Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement read. The Forum highlighted Olunloyo’s remarkable journey from being a child prodigy in mathematics to becoming a respected political leader and technocrat.
The former governors particularly noted Olunloyo’s exceptional intellect, describing him as “insightful, brilliant and intellectual” with an “exceptional ability in applied mathematics.” They also praised his dedication to fostering inter-group relations, unity, and peace across Nigeria throughout his career.
As fellow former state executives, Aliyu and Daniel expressed their condolences to Olunloyo’s family and the people of Oyo State on behalf of the Forum, remembering him as an “amiable and respected elder statesman” whose wisdom and experience spanned decades of Nigeria’s modern history.
