After Nigeria celebrated its ever-crucial workers on the 1st of May, 2025, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government’s to the welfare of maritime workers in Nigeria.
Speaking via a press statement issued by his Media and Communications Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola revealed that the workers in the country’s maritime industry deserve lots of praise for being resilient and dedicated with their job, and they should never doubt that they’ll continue to be vital to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Emphasising that their rights and security will never be toyed with, the minister said that the maritime industry is very important to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and that makes every worker in the sector absolutely crucial to the realisation of the current government’s economic targets.
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians to salute the unwavering spirit and industriousness of our maritime workers, from seafarers and dockworkers to port administrators and regulators. Your efforts are the bedrock of our nation’s gateway to trade and economic prosperity.
Without your daily sacrifices and commitment to excellence, our ports and inland waterways would not function as efficiently as they do,” he said.
Oyetola noted that the ministry will remain committed to prioritising proper investment in infrastructure, modern technologies, and workforce training to enhance productivity while guaranteeing a safe and thriving maritime environment.
He also advocated for more partnerships among government agencies, labour unions, and private stakeholders to ensure maritime workers stay globally competitive and future-ready.
“As a Ministry, we are committed to building a modern, secure and thriving maritime sector that will create jobs, drive innovation and enhance national development,” he added.
