Ex-Chelsea player, Florent Malouda, has said that Christopher Nkunku can thrive at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
He recently revealed that he currently feels like the Frenchman has mentally checked out of Chelsea.
Speaking during an interview with Racing Tipster, Malouda revealed that even though he is still not sure if Nkunku would leave Chelsea this summer, he would love for him to join Arsenal or Bayern Munich next.
According to him, he believes the Frenchman’s football career can progress at a club like Arsenal, because the Spanish manager’s system would suit his game completely.
Malouda stated that he likes Nkunku as a player, and he only needs to show more to prove that he is still the same player Chelsea didn’t think twice to pay a lot of money for.
“Arsenal or Bayern Munich would be the right kind of place for him to go, but I’m not sure he should leave Chelsea. Personally, I like him as a player, as a person. I would love for him to fight and to prove what he showed in the beginning,” he said.
The former winger is of the opinion that there is a mental hurdle Nkunku is currently struggling with, and it stems from failing to adjust to his new environment after leaving the German league years back.
Malouda then urged the Frenchman to rediscover his spark that once made him recognised as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga, especially because he has to force his way into France’s team for the World Cup in 2026.
“I think it’s more a mental aspect that he needs to work on a little bit, like Jadon Sancho. Moving clubs, it’s sometimes running away from what you have to adjust. He’s used to the Bundesliga, but at Bayern, there would be competition too. So for me he has more things to improve.
But it’s like he kind of gave up mentally, and that’s what he needs to adjust. But yeah, Bayern Munich or Arsenal would be good clubs for him to continue to progress and, and most important is to prepare for the World cup coming next year,” he added.
