The chairman of the 2025 Almond Awards Panel of Judges, Ms Prisca Soares, has called for new thinking to address the penetration gap in the Nigerian insurance industry.
She recently hailed the media for doing everything possible to inform Nigerians about what insurance is all about.
Speaking at the unveiling of the nominations for the 2025 Annual Almond Insurance Industry Awards in Lagos, Prisca Soares said that there is still a major gap between awareness and actual penetration in the country’s insurance sector, especially when measured against Nigeria’s massive population.
She said that even though the industry has been making great strides with promoting insurance awareness, a lot more still has to be done to bridge the glaring gap.
According to her, innovative platforms are badly needed to address the obvious need to attract more eyes to the happenings in the insurance industry.
Prisca stated that the Almond Insurance Industry Awards is a powerful platform that highlights the progress of the industry from time to time, while attracting impressive feedback and participation in the process.
“Although the industry has made considerable efforts in promoting insurance awareness – the media included – there is still a significant gap between awareness and actual penetration, especially when measured against our country’s vast population.
This reality calls for fresh thinking and innovative platforms to drive the message further. The Almond Insurance Industry Awards is one such platform, and I strongly believe in its power to shine a positive light on the industry, given the feedback and participation from previous editions.
The 2025 edition, tagged #Recharged, will take place on Friday, November 7th, 2025. As always, the event will bring together policymakers, insurance professionals, entertainers and the ensuing public (corporate and individual) to celebrate the innovators and change makers in the industry,” she said.
Prisca emphasized that the aim of the awards is to recognize and reward the brilliant efforts of both men and women across various arms of the industry, stressing that those who work relentlessly to aid the promotion of insurance, even in tough circumstances, must be appreciated.
She concluded by saying that the platform will keep celebrating practitioners who go against all odds to promote what the vital insurance sector has to offer Nigerians.
