The Warri Kingdom has come alive with pomp and pageantry as the 4th coronation anniversary of Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, officially commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Palace Church in Aghofen, Warri, Delta State.
The celebrations, themed “Towards Iwere Renaissance: Evolving Strategies for Confronting Land and Language Issues,” are set to be a vibrant showcase of Itsekiri heritage, unity, and cultural pride.
According to the organisers, the seven-day event began with a grand praise and worship session at the Palace Church. Other activities lined up for the week include the commissioning of a hospital in Ugbuwangue, Warri, and an Itsekiri Language Competition for children at the Palace Auditorium.
Day three will feature a colourful mini regatta from the Warri boat yard to Ode-Itsekiri, followed by homage paying at the historic Big Warri palace. The fourth day will also witness homage-paying ceremonies at the Aghofen palace grounds.
On Day five, the palace will host the launch of the book ‘Arabic Figures & Itsekiri’ by Lucky Ebojel, alongside a special drama presentation. Day six will honour distinguished Itsekiri sons and daughters with the prestigious Royal Order of Iwere (ROI) award and feature a commemorative lecture on the anniversary theme.
Festivities will conclude on Day seven with a Thanksgiving Service at the Palace Church, drawing the curtain on a week dedicated to celebrating the Olu’s reign and the enduring spirit of the Itsekiri people.
Organisers noted that the celebrations go beyond pageantry, serving as a rallying point for unity, peace, and development in the kingdom while strengthening the bond between the monarch and his people.
