Nigeria’s political, business, and media elite are preparing to gather for the prestigious 2025 Megastar Man of the Decade Awards, with several prominent figures set to receive recognition for their outstanding contributions to national development.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf leads the list of honorees, earning acclaim for his transformative educational and social development initiatives that have positioned his state as a model for others to follow. Governor Yusuf will receive the “Champion of Education Transformation” award in recognition of his administration’s groundbreaking work in the education sector.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, who previously served as Ogun State Governor and now represents Ogun East Senatorial District, will be celebrated with the Legislative Excellence and Citizen Engagement Award. His recognition highlights his exceptional democratic leadership and effective representation of his constituents.
The media industry will be represented by Nduka Obaigbena, the influential Publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement in African Media Excellence Award. This honour acknowledges his transformative role in shaping Africa’s media landscape over the past decade.
Energy sector pioneer Alhaji Amin Ilyas, Chairman of Transoceanic Group and Cratos E&P, will be honoured with the Energy Infrastructure Innovator of the Decade Award. His recognition stems from his leadership of multi-billion-dollar energy projects, including a massive $3.5 billion Floating LNG solution and a $2.3 billion terminal infrastructure development.
Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu will be celebrated with the African Woman of Impact Award, recognising her significant contributions to development across the continent. Her work exemplifies the growing influence of African women in leadership positions.
The ceremony, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at The Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Abuja, will bring together leaders from diverse sectors, including politics, media, business, oil and gas, maritime, fashion, and humanitarian work. The event will be broadcast live on Channels TV, ensuring nationwide coverage of the celebrations.
Additional honorees include Adesuwa Okunbo-Rhodes, who will receive the Trailblazer in Private Equity Award, and fashion industry leaders Seyi Adekunle (Seyi Vodi) and Esther Olorunfemi, CEO of Es-tree Afrocenter, who will be recognised for their contributions to the fashion sector both locally and in the diaspora.
Adeniyi Ifetayo, the event’s executive producer and CEO of Megastar Media Communications, emphasised the pan-African scope of the awards program. The initiative aims to celebrate exceptional African leaders making extraordinary contributions both within the continent and internationally, inspiring future generations toward innovation and excellence.
The selection process maintains rigorous standards, according to Seunmanuel Faleye, chairman of the Megastar Awards Committee. The committee employs a comprehensive vetting system to ensure all honorees demonstrate not only innovation in their fields but also ethical leadership and sustainable practices that benefit future generations.
The ceremony will feature a keynote address by Abdulrasheed Bawa, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who will speak on “From Citizens to Stakeholders: Cultivating a Culture of Collective Accountability.”
