Northern governors and traditional rulers met in Kaduna State on Wednesday for a joint emergency security meeting aimed at tackling insecurity across the region and the country at large.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, hosted the meeting, which drew members of the Northern States Governors’ Forum alongside prominent traditional leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, chaired the session, which held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Kaduna State Government House.
Federal security chiefs were also represented at the meeting, including officials from the National Security Adviser’s office, the Ministry of Defence, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Other attendees included former Inspectors-General of Police, retired senior military and paramilitary officers, and former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation, all of Northern extraction.
The meeting centred on strategies to address the security challenges confronting Northern Nigeria and the country as a whole.
