Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has backed Florian Wirtz to succeed at Liverpool. He recently revealed that it is only a matter of time before the ยฃ116 million signing delivers at Anfield.
Speaking in a pre-match news conference ahead of Real Madrid’s UCL clash against Liverpool, Alonso said he has no doubts about the German midfielder’s quality.
According to him, playing in a league that is watched all over the world is a massive opportunity for Wirtz to show his exceptional talent, and he expects him to come good eventually.
The Spanish manager stated that Florian only needs more time to adapt to his new surroundings.
“I have no doubts, it’s just a matter of time. It’s a big chance for him, coming to Liverpool after so many years in Germany, and being there his whole life.
He needs to adapt, but he’s a really special player,” he said.
He further noted that because Wirtz is a very competitive footballer, he won’t hesitate to do everything possible to prove his worth in England.
Alonso, however, concluded by saying that he hopes the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder doesn’t rediscover his good form against Real Madrid.
“He’s competitive. One of the reasons I am here is because of Flo.
Hopefully not tomorrow, but I hope soon he’ll show his quality and his class,” he added.
Florian Wirtz has faced criticism since joining in a high-profile deal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, contributing no goals, and two assists, in 13 appearances so far in the Premier League and Champions League.
