The Kano State Hisbah Corps intercepted a vehicle carrying alcoholic beverages from Lagos to Kano on Tuesday, arresting the driver and seizing the consignment.
Mujahideen Aminuddeen, Deputy Commander-General of the Shari’ah enforcement agency, confirmed that the operation was executed based on reliable intelligence.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Aminuddeen explained that operatives from the Fagge patrol command acted promptly to stop the vehicle and confiscate its contents.
According to the deputy commander-general, preliminary investigations determined that approximately 13 packs of alcoholic drinks were dispatched by a woman in Lagos to a recipient in Kano.
The driver has been taken into custody and is currently assisting authorities with their investigation. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the woman who allegedly sent the shipment.
Aminuddeen called on residents to remain vigilant and report any activities that violate Islamic law or contravene established social norms, emphasising that community cooperation is vital to the Hisbah’s ability to effectively carry out its mandate.
The Hisbah Corps is responsible for enforcing Shari’ah law provisions in Kano State, which include prohibitions on the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol among Muslims.
