Nigeria’s drug regulatory agency has moved to prevent a batch of Indomie noodles recalled in France from entering the country, clarifying that the product was never approved for sale locally.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) confirmed on Sunday that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour flagged by French authorities did not come from Nigeria and lacks NAFDAC registration.
French food safety watchdog Rappel Conso recalled the product after discovering undeclared allergens—milk and eggs—that could endanger consumers with allergies or intolerances.
NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye emphasized that the recalled noodles are not available in Nigerian markets and cannot legally enter the country, as noodles appear on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List.
The agency has deployed surveillance teams nationwide to intercept the product if it surfaces anywhere in Nigeria. Zonal directors and state coordinators received orders to seize any units discovered in their areas.
NAFDAC stressed that all Indomie products sold in Nigeria are manufactured locally under strict regulatory oversight, meeting good manufacturing practice standards before receiving approval.
The agency’s Ports Inspection Directorate is now on high alert to block any attempts to import the affected product.
Consumers who encounter the recalled noodles should discard them immediately and report findings to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 0800-162-3322. Anyone experiencing adverse reactions should use NAFDAC’s online reporting system at www.nafdac.gov.ng.
NAFDAC assured Nigerians that locally produced noodles remain safe for consumption.
