Victor Akande, chairman of Accord Party in Osun State, has confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is the party’s only recognized candidate for the August 8 governorship election.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, Akande dismissed claims about a rival candidate emerging from the party, describing such reports as baseless and orchestrated by “political jobbers seeking attention for pecuniary gain.”
The party chairman said the purported candidacy of Clement Bamigbola, allegedly produced through a factional primary, holds no legitimacy within the party’s legal structure.
“The kangaroo primary purportedly held by a non-existent faction is just a ruse. Such a faction does not exist within our party structure by law,” Akande stated.
He referenced the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) consistent recognition of the Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem-led leadership in previous elections across Anambra and Ekiti States, expressing confidence that the same would apply in Osun.
“I am assuring you that Governor Adeleke has no rival as far as our party ticket is concerned,” he added.
Regarding the challenge posed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate Bola Oyebamiji, Akande expressed confidence in Adeleke’s re-election prospects, citing the electorate’s rejection of APC in the 2022 gubernatorial poll.
He criticized the previous APC administration’s record, particularly the implementation of partial salary payments that he said “reduced workers to beggars.”
“The people have rejected APC at the poll in 2022 and will speak even louder in August to make APC realize that Osun does not want the party to return it to the era of darkness,” Akande said.
