Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, has reaffirmed his commitment to rewarding Nigeria’s Super Eagles with $500,000 despite their semifinal elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The pledge remains intact following Nigeria’s devastating penalty shootout defeat to Morocco on Wednesday, with the host nation prevailing 4-2 from the spot after a tense semifinal at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Taking to his official X account, Rabiu lauded the team’s fighting spirit and resilience throughout the tournament, emphasizing that their performance deserved recognition regardless of the final result.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage on the pitch. Every Nigerian is proud of you,” the business mogul wrote.
He acknowledged that outcomes don’t always match effort, but stressed that the unity and passion displayed by the squad resonated deeply with citizens both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.
“Sometimes our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we desire, but the spirit and unity you displayed truly matter. I am going ahead with the $500,000 pledge in recognition of your hard work, dedication and the joy you brought to our nation,” Rabiu stated.
The BUA chairman originally announced the reward following the Super Eagles’ impressive 2-0 quarter-final triumph over Algeria.
Rabiu encouraged the players to maintain their focus, expressing optimism that valuable lessons from the tournament would pave the way for future triumphs.
“Keep your heads high. This experience will fuel greater victories. Nigeria believes in you,” he concluded.
