Petrol production from the Dangote Refinery jumped 64.1 percent in December 2025, climbing to 32 million litres daily from 19.5 million litres the previous month, new figures from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) reveal.
The production surge enabled Nigeria to reduce petrol imports by 19 percent, with foreign shipments dropping by 9.9 million litres daily to 42.2 million litres, down from 52.1 million litres in November.
Daily petrol consumption across Nigeria increased by 10.8 million litres—a 20.4 percent rise—to reach 63.7 million litres, compared with 52.9 million litres the month before, based on volumes released into the market.
The $20 billion Dangote facility supplied all domestically refined petrol and operated at an average capacity of 62.94 percent during December. Meanwhile, the three state-owned refineries managed by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) remained offline throughout the period.
For diesel, the NMDPRA reported that average daily supply of automated gas oil (AGO) declined 12.25 percent to 17.9 million litres from 20.4 million litres in November. Local refineries—Dangote, Port Harcourt Refinery Company, Aradel, Edo, and Watersmith—contributed 7 million litres per day.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply edged higher to 5,201 metric tons daily in December from 5,000 mt/day in November, with retail prices ranging between N1,120 and N1,600 per kilogramme.
The figures underscore Dangote Refinery’s expanding contribution to Nigeria’s fuel self-sufficiency as the country moves away from heavy import reliance.
