The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has launched an electronic membership registration exercise aimed at expanding its political base and creating a more transparent system for tracking party supporters.
Governor Dapo Abiodun officially inaugurated the program on Tuesday, calling it a pivotal step toward modernizing the party’s operations and eliminating fraudulent membership claims. Speaking through his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor emphasized that the digital platform would bring accountability to a process often marred by inflated figures.
“The era of fake or inflated membership figures is over,” Abiodun declared, urging party officials across Ogun’s 236 wards to ensure broad participation in the registration drive.
The initiative allows both existing members to update their records and new supporters to formally join what Abiodun described as “the largest and most successful political party in Africa.” The electronic system is designed to create a verifiable database while reducing opportunities for manipulation that have traditionally plagued manual registration processes.
State party chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi encouraged members to view the exercise as a collective effort rather than an individual transaction. He promised to deploy additional registration centers where needed to accommodate all prospective members during the limited registration period.
To demonstrate leadership commitment, senior government officials including Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedele, House Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, Secretary to the State Government Tokunbo Talabi, and Chief of Staff Toyin Taiwo completed their registrations during the launch ceremony.
The party has called on supporters throughout the state to actively participate and help mobilize others as the APC works to consolidate its political position in Ogun State.
