The University of Lagos held the opening ceremony of its 2025 convocation on Tuesday, awarding degrees to 3,136 students from three faculties at the institution’s main campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola announced that the three-day ceremony would see a total of 16,506 students receive their degrees, with 10,584 earning first degrees and diplomas, while 5,782 would obtain postgraduate qualifications. An additional 140 students from the University of Lagos Business School are also set to graduate.
Tuesday’s session recognized graduates from the Faculties of Education, Communication and Media Studies, and Social Sciences. The remaining faculties—including Arts, Architecture, Creative Arts, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical and Earth Sciences, and Computing and Informatics—were scheduled for the afternoon session.
Mr. David Adebayo stood out as the top graduate in the Faculty of Education with a cumulative grade point average of 4.92, also earning him recognition as joint best graduating student in the sciences. Miss Tosin Odunewu achieved the highest CGPA in Communication and Media Studies at 4.89, while Miss Baki Adams led Social Sciences with 4.85. Miss Stella Okeke topped the Sandwich Programme with a 4.91 CGPA.
During her address, Professor Ogunsola acknowledged the contributions of the Senate, staff, alumni, and institutional partners, noting that multiple buildings completed over the past year would soon be commissioned.
She challenged the new graduates to embrace adaptability and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving world shaped by artificial intelligence. “Face the future with courage and confidence. It is yours for the taking,” she told the graduands.
