Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its dedication to community development by providing educational supplies and hygiene products to students at Wesley Nursery and Primary School in Lagos’s Makoko Waterfront Community through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP).
The Risk Management Directorate spearheaded this “Back to School” initiative, which aims to enhance learning environments and promote health practices among children in one of Nigeria’s most marginalized waterfront areas. The FHHP enables employees to identify critical community needs, with the bank’s management providing matching funds for approved projects.
The outreach benefitted 124 primary school students who received school bags, exercise books, writing materials, towels, soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to support their education and wellbeing.
Dr. Damian Orizu, Divisional Head of Remedial Assets at Fidelity Bank, represented Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer Kevin Ugwuoke at the event. He emphasized that the bank’s prosperity depends on thriving communities.
“We recognize our growth is intertwined with community wellbeing,” Dr. Orizu explained. “By supporting these children’s education and health, we’re investing in Makoko’s future and building essential foundations for sustainable progress.”
He praised the Risk Management Directorate for leading the initiative, highlighting how it demonstrates authentic corporate responsibility driven by employee commitment.
Chief Victor Panke, Baale of Adogbo (1) Community in Makoko, expressed appreciation for the bank’s ongoing support while describing the transportation and financial difficulties local children face. “This assistance significantly relieves our families’ burdens,” Chief Panke said, noting that many students navigate the lagoon daily to reach school. He requested continued partnership, particularly for boats to ensure safer educational access.
This marks Fidelity Bank’s third Makoko intervention in two months, showcasing sustained commitment to education, health, and community advancement in underserved areas.
