Ogun Govt Sets Monday for Third-Term Resumption, Urges Parents to Comply

The Ogun State Government has directed all public and private primary and secondary schools, including technical colleges, to resume for the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on April 22, 2026, by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Commissioner, Abayomi Arigbabu. The ministry explained that the resumption date is in line with the state’s approved academic calendar.

Schools across the state are expected to begin academic activities immediately upon reopening. The government also urged parents and guardians to ensure their children return to school promptly, stressing that lessons will commence without delay.

The third term represents the final phase of the academic session, during which schools are expected to complete syllabuses, conduct promotion examinations, and prepare students for external exams.

Students had earlier gone on break after the conclusion of second-term activities.

Meanwhile, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has clarified why it declined a request to host a lecture by former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Obi had earlier announced plans to deliver a keynote address at the university before heading to Ibadan for a political summit but later revealed the event was cancelled. He noted that similar cancellations had happened multiple times in the past.

In response, the university, through its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the request was denied due to late notice from the organisers. According to the institution, critical details about the event and its guests were only provided a day before the scheduled date.

The university explained that the short notice made it difficult to arrange adequate security and logistics for a high-profile event, emphasizing that the decision was based on safety concerns and procedural requirements, not a slight against Obi.
