The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed reports suggesting that its General Overseer, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, endorsed any political party, candidate, or was involved in calling off a protest.
In a statement released on Tuesday via the church’s official public relations X (Twitter) handle, RCCG described the claims as false and misleading, stressing that Pastor Adeboye has consistently remained non-partisan.
The church explained that Adeboye has always encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in elections responsibly, while allowing individuals to choose candidates based on their personal convictions. It added that RCCG members belong to different political parties, and the church does not impose political alignment on anyone.
RCCG also denied reports that the cleric cancelled a planned protest. According to the statement, what was actually communicated was a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding adjustments to a three-day prayer programme. The revised arrangement, it said, involved holding a grand finale at a central location and organising a rally within the venue area.
The church further rejected claims that Adeboye has been silent on national issues. It stated that he has consistently spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, hardship, elections, governance, and the need for righteous leadership, but typically does so through prayer, moral guidance, and counsel rather than political confrontation.
RCCG urged the public to disregard false narratives and rely only on official communication channels for accurate information about the General Overseer and the church.
It also called on bloggers, media organisations, and content creators to verify information before publishing, stressing that the public deserves accurate reporting.
“Verify before you believe. Fact-check before you publish. Truth matters,” the statement added.
