Nigerian singer Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has accused the Federal Government of sponsoring counter-protesters to undermine the recent #EndInsecurity demonstration.
The Afrobeat star made the claim shortly after joining the nationwide protest against rising insecurity, which was held three days ago across several states in response to ongoing killings and kidnappings by terrorists.
Other prominent figures who participated in the protest include human rights lawyer Femi Falana and activist Omoyele Sowore.
In an Instagram video shared over the weekend, Falz alleged that the Tinubu administration mobilised a crowd of counter-protesters, mostly women with children, to disrupt the demonstration.
“This is literally the end of us if we allow this to continue,” he said. “Free all captives, end insecurity now. We stepped out on Friday to protest the worsening insecurity and mass abductions across the country. What was wild to see was that Tinubu and his supporters had rented a crowd of counter-protesters, the majority of whom were women with children.”
Falz further highlighted unresolved abduction cases driving the protest, noting that schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State remain missing. He also referenced an attack on Woro community in Kwara State on February 3-4, where insurgents reportedly killed about 200 people and abducted 176 others who remain in captivity, as well as attacks on schools in two Borno communities whose pupils are yet to return home.
“It could be your children tomorrow,” he warned. “This is the breaking point. We’ve been complaining about how difficult things are, how high the cost of living is — how are you even going to hustle or make a better living if you’re not even alive?”
