The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed political economist Pat Utomi and veteran politician Buba Galadima to head a newly established National Reconciliation Committee aimed at resolving disputes following the party’s recently concluded primaries.
The announcement was made in a statement jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, and National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
The move follows the release of candidates’ lists for the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a development that has sparked grievances among aspirants and party members across several political parties.
According to the NDC leadership, the seven-member committee has been tasked with engaging dissatisfied aspirants nationwide, addressing complaints arising from the primaries, and fostering unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Pat Utomi will serve as the chairman of the committee, while Buba Galadima has been named co-chairman. Barrister Mohammed Sani Takori will serve as vice chairman, and Comrade Babatunde Alli has been appointed secretary.
Other members of the committee include Mrs. Dudu Mamman Manuga, Hon. Salvador Adegoke Moshood, and Alhaji Haruna Pai.
To strengthen the reconciliation process across the country, the party also constituted three zonal reconciliation sub-committees covering the North, South-East, and South-South geopolitical zones.
The Northern Sub-Committee will be led by Mainasara Sani Abubakar as chairman, with Barrister Fatima Musa Abba serving as secretary. Other members are Comrade Solomon Ndah, Dr. Tanko Yusufu, and Arc. Dr. Toma Audu Gana.
In the South-East, former senator Victor Umeh will chair the sub-committee, while Sir Patrick Akwara will serve as secretary. Members include Barrister Eze Chikamnayo, Dr. Patrick Ezie Chukwudi, Chief (Barr.) Isaac Chinaka Anumudu, and Stefiny Amaka Eugene.
For the South-South zone, Senator Ben Birabi has been appointed chairman, with Senator Clever M. Ikisikpo serving as secretary. Other members are Isaac Idahosa, Esther Archibong, and Apostle David Stephen Okpon.
The NDC disclosed that the National Reconciliation Committee will be formally inaugurated at the party’s national secretariat by 12 noon on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The party expressed confidence that the committees would help resolve internal disputes, reconcile aggrieved members, and strengthen party cohesion as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
