The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has reacted to the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, saying it is reviewing the results before deciding on its next course of action.
The election was won by the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who secured victory under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Sunday by the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said it was scrutinising results from various wards across the state and would consult its legal team before taking further steps.
The APC stressed that the declaration of a winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not necessarily bring the electoral process to an end, noting that dissatisfied parties have the constitutional right to challenge election results in court.
According to the party, the electoral process can extend from the election itself to the election tribunal, Court of Appeal and, where necessary, the Supreme Court.
The APC said it would explore all options available under the Electoral Act after consultations with its lawyers.
The party also urged its members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful despite the outcome announced by INEC.
“We are imploring our ever loyal members and supporters to remain calm while they carry on with their businesses and refuse to respond to any provocative action or inaction from any of the members of the ruling party across the state,” the statement said.
The APC assured its supporters that the situation was still being reviewed and urged them to remain steadfast.
“It is necessary to assure our members and supporters to remain steadfast about the current situation and have it in mind that it is not over until it is over,” the party added.
The opposition party also called on the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, alleging that some APC supporters had been subjected to harassment.
The APC described the current political situation in Osun as temporary, expressing confidence that the development would eventually become part of the state’s political history.
For now, the party said it would continue to assess the election results and determine whether to pursue legal action against Adeleke’s victory.
