The crisis within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new turn as former governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye has filed a suit against Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, over information contained in the senator’s previous electoral documents.
Hunye instituted the case at the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to examine electoral documents submitted under oath by Adeola during his previous political contests.
According to Hunye’s legal team, the case is aimed at determining the state of origin Adeola declared in earlier Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms, particularly those submitted when he contested elections in Lagos State.
Speaking at a press briefing, Hunye’s lawyer, Olamide Victor, said the suit was not intended to dispute Adeola’s status as a Yewa indigene.
Victor said the legal action was instead focused on what he described as statutory integrity and consistency in documents submitted under oath.
He questioned the state of origin Adeola declared in his previous INEC forms, asking whether he identified Ekiti or Lagos State at the time.
The lawyer said any deliberate inconsistency in documents submitted under oath could have legal implications.
Hunye’s legal team did not present copies of the disputed historical forms during the briefing. However, Victor said certified true copies obtained from INEC records would be presented as exhibits during the court proceedings.
The lawsuit comes amid an ongoing dispute over the APC governorship primary held on May 21, 2026. Adeola was declared the winner of the exercise after being credited with 304,055 votes out of 305,287 accredited voters, while Hunye was recorded as having no votes.
Hunye has continued to challenge aspects of the primary and has maintained that he is seeking judicial determination of the issues rather than asking the media or the public to recognise him as the party’s candidate.
He has also questioned the APC’s claim that he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following an alleged petition from his ward in Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area.
According to Hunye, the party’s subsequent actions appeared inconsistent with the alleged suspension because he was allowed to purchase the governorship expression of interest and nomination forms on April 28.
He questioned why the APC accepted his N50 million payment, processed his application and allowed him to proceed through the screening process if he had already been suspended.
Hunye said he had previously exhausted the party’s internal dispute-resolution process, including submitting an appeal against the outcome of the governorship primary.
He said he received no response to the appeal, leading him to seek judicial redress.
The latest suit adds another dimension to the internal crisis in the Ogun APC as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
Hunye’s legal team has maintained that the case is not about questioning Adeola’s identity as a Yewa indigene, but about determining what information he provided in earlier electoral documents submitted to INEC.
