President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, as Director of Women Mobilisation for his 2027 presidential campaign council.
Edu’s appointment was contained in the list of campaign council members released on Saturday, August 22.
The appointment marks a return to a prominent political role for Edu, who was removed from office as minister in January 2024 following the suspension of her predecessor, Sadiya Umar Farouq, and an investigation into financial transactions involving the ministry.
The campaign council will be chaired by President Tinubu, with APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has been named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary.
APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman were named deputy and assistant secretaries respectively.
The council’s advisory team includes former APC chairman Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni will serve as deputy director-generals for the southern and northern regions.
Other key appointments include Senator Adams Oshiomhole as Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation and the President’s Chief of Staff as Deputy Director-General for Administration.
James Abiodun Faleke, who was involved in Tinubu’s previous presidential campaign, has also returned as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.
Faleke will coordinate election planning across the six geopolitical zones, supported by zonal directors and other officials.
The campaign’s legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, while Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris will coordinate media and strategic communications.
Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu are among those assigned roles within the media structure. Segun Dada will again serve as Director of New Media, with Solomon Arowolo as Secretary of New Media.
The campaign has also named five spokespersons, led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
Tinubu has directed members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election.
The President also urged campaign officials to engage other party members who were not included in the initial list and bring them into the campaign effort.
According to Tinubu, the administration’s economic reforms and other achievements will form a major part of the campaign message as the party seeks to secure another term.
