2027: Tinubu Will Have Easier Election Than 2023 – Wike’s Aide

The 2027 presidential election is expected to be an easier contest for President Bola Tinubu than the 2023 election, according to Lere Olayinka, media aide to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Olayinka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the statement while appearing on TVC Breakfast on Monday.

He attributed Tinubu’s stronger political position to what he described as the president’s performance in office, as well as his ability to build alliances with politicians across different political parties.

According to Olayinka, Tinubu has successfully attracted several influential opposition politicians to his administration, a development he said has weakened the opposition ahead of the 2027 election.

He argued that the president’s political strategy had made the forthcoming election significantly less challenging than the 2023 presidential contest.

“The reason this election of 2027 will be a one-way election is because of the performance of the president in terms of national development and his performance in terms of politics,” Olayinka said.

He added that the 2027 election would be “much easier for the president than the 2023 election,” describing this as a reality that some Nigerians were unwilling to acknowledge.

Olayinka also pointed to Wike’s continued relationship with the Tinubu administration despite the FCT minister remaining a member of the PDP.

He argued that Wike could have contributed significantly to the PDP’s mobilisation efforts ahead of 2027 if he had chosen not to work with Tinubu.

“If Wike was not working with the president, probably he would have been galvanizing more support for the PDP. Now he is not. The president has been able to bring him and other people to himself,” he said.

The PDP chieftain further highlighted the possibility of opposition politicians supporting different presidential candidates and parties during the 2027 election.

He cited the potential involvement of politicians such as Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in backing candidates from different political platforms.

According to him, such divisions could further reduce the strength of the opposition and improve Tinubu’s chances at the polls.

Olayinka maintained that Tinubu’s willingness to work with politicians from different parties had made it easier for the president to govern while also strengthening his political mobilisation ahead of 2027.

“By being open, by bringing people to himself, he (Tinubu) has been able to make governance easier. He has also been able to make politics easier for himself,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to take note of Wike’s support for Tinubu, despite the minister’s continued membership of the opposition PDP.
