The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Lagos as host of the 2026 CAF Awards, scheduled for Monday, December 7.
The ceremony will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, formerly known as the National Theatre.
It will be the fourth time Lagos is staging the awards, after previous editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
Top players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders from across the continent are expected at the event, which honours outstanding performances and contributions to African football.
Nigeria will also host another major CAF event ahead of the awards. The CAF Ordinary General Assembly is fixed for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BTICC) in Abuja.
The two events place Nigeria at the centre of CAF’s calendar in 2026.
Troost-Ekong Calls For Consistency In Super Eagles
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has urged the Nigeria national team to build greater consistency and a stronger structure if it hopes to compete at the highest level.
The three-time African champions have missed the last two FIFA World Cup tournaments and have started their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign unconvincingly. They beat Madagascar 2-1 in their opening match, then lost 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Troost-Ekong said the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the coaching staff and the players all need to work with more consistency, “from the top down.”
The former Watford defender said Nigeria has no shortage of talent but that uncertainty over how the team is prepared remains a problem. He maintained that “the talent is there in abundance.”
He described the long-term appointment of Eric Chelle as a good decision, noting that the coach also handles the Olympic team and understands the young players coming through.
Troost-Ekong cautioned that Nigeria cannot rely on individual talent alone and must build a firmer foundation around the team.
