Dangote Group is considering expanding its industrial operations into Egypt as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence across Africa and promote economic integration between the continent’s major economies.

The proposed expansion follows a high-level visit by an Egyptian government delegation, led by the country’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, to the Dangote Industries complex in Lagos.

The delegation held discussions with senior executives of the Dangote Group on possible investment partnerships, industrial collaboration and opportunities to expand production capacity across several strategic sectors.

The Egyptian delegation included officials from the country’s Ministry of Petroleum and senior representatives of its oil and petrochemical industries. During the visit, discussions focused on identifying areas where Nigerian and Egyptian businesses could work together to strengthen industrial development and attract more investments.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, described the visit as an important step towards strengthening African economic integration and encouraging businesses across the continent to invest beyond their home countries.

According to him, African businesses must take advantage of opportunities across the continent to accelerate industrialisation, create employment and promote sustainable economic development.

He said the engagement provided an opportunity to showcase the industrial capacity developed by the Dangote Group while exploring areas of mutual interest that could benefit both countries.

Dangote added that the Group remained committed to building industries that create economic value, strengthen local production and contribute to Africa’s long-term development.

Speaking during the visit, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, said the delegation was interested in converting existing diplomatic and business relationships between Nigeria and Egypt into practical investment opportunities.

He explained that the visit followed earlier engagements involving the Dangote Group at the Alamein Economic Conference and other international investment platforms organised by Egypt.

Saleh said Egypt was particularly interested in understanding the Dangote Group’s achievements in petroleum refining, petrochemicals, fertiliser production and other manufacturing activities.

He expressed admiration for the scale of operations at the Dangote industrial complex, noting that the experience could provide opportunities for collaboration between businesses in both countries.

The minister stressed that stronger private-sector participation would be essential to achieving meaningful economic cooperation between Nigeria and Egypt.

He said both countries could benefit from sharing industrial knowledge, combining their respective strengths and encouraging investment flows that would support production and economic growth.

Saleh also highlighted the economic opportunities presented by the combined population of approximately 400 million people in Nigeria and Egypt.

He noted that Nigeria’s abundant energy resources and Egypt’s established industrial base created opportunities for cooperation in manufacturing, energy, petrochemicals, fertiliser production and other strategic industries.

According to him, deeper business relationships could encourage Nigerian companies to establish operations in Egypt while providing Egyptian investors with opportunities to expand their activities in Nigeria.

He added that such partnerships would deliver benefits beyond trade and investment, including job creation, technology transfer, skills development and the growth of supporting industries.

When asked whether Egypt would welcome an investment by Dangote in another refinery, Saleh explained that discussions were not limited to petroleum refining, stressing that several other sectors offered attractive opportunities for collaboration.

He maintained that the priority was to establish partnerships capable of generating lasting economic benefits for both countries and the African continent.

The proposed expansion is consistent with the Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to extend its industrial presence across Africa, strengthen regional supply chains and position the continent as a competitive global manufacturing destination.

The potential partnership could also create new opportunities in fertiliser production, petrochemicals, manufacturing, energy investments and industrial services.

With Nigeria and Egypt seeking to strengthen their industrial capacities and attract more private-sector investments, the emerging relationship is expected to support cross-border business activities and encourage greater movement of African capital and expertise.

If successfully developed, the collaboration could represent another important step towards building stronger African industries, creating employment opportunities and reducing the continent’s dependence on imported manufactured products.
