Enugu Air has received regulatory approval to commence direct flights between Lagos and London Gatwick in December 2026, marking a major step in the airline’s international expansion.
The state-owned airline also announced that bookings for the new route are now open, allowing interested passengers to make reservations through its online booking platform.
The airline disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, describing the approval as a significant development that would strengthen air connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
According to the statement, the Lagos–London Gatwick route will be operated in partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA), which has been appointed as the designated operating partner.
Enugu Air said the new service would commence in December 2026, providing passengers with additional travel options between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The development comes about six weeks after the airline operated its maiden international flight to Douala, Cameroon, on September 23, 2026.
The airline described the latest approval as an important milestone in its expansion plans, noting that the new route would create opportunities for increased passenger movement, business activities, trade and tourism between both countries.
It also acknowledged the role of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, in driving the state’s aviation development agenda, which is aimed at positioning Enugu as an emerging centre for international connectivity, investment and economic growth.
Enugu Air was established in July 2025 by the Enugu State Government with an initial fleet of three Embraer aircraft, comprising the E170 and E190 series.
The airline was introduced as part of the Mbah administration’s broader plan to develop a modern and integrated transportation system while positioning Enugu as a major aviation hub in West and Central Africa.
Since commencing operations, the airline has expanded its fleet and route network, with the approval for the Lagos–London service representing another major step towards its international expansion.
The commencement of the new route is expected to improve travel connections between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, provide more options for passengers and strengthen economic and commercial relationships between the two countries.
