The Zamfara State Government House has officially disconnected from the national grid and commenced electricity supply through a mini-grid system, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s drive towards uninterrupted power supply and sustainable energy management โ and forming part of a much broader energy transformation unfolding across the state.
The Government House mini-grid commenced operation today, November 3, 2026, in a decisive move by Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration to address persistent electricity challenges, ensure reliable power supply and improve the efficiency of government operations.
The development comes on the heels of a major statewide rollout. Through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), 37 mini-grid projects were flagged off โ comprising two interconnected and 35 isolated systems โ representing approximately 18.8MWp of solar capacity and 125,106 planned electricity connections across Gummi, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Tsafe and Zurmi Local Government Areas. The projects were advanced in partnership with the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and Governor Dauda Lawal, connecting electricity policy, infrastructure, public services and cleaner transportation.
Alongside the mini-grid rollout, the State Government unveiled its Electricity Policy โ an important foundation for attracting investment and sustaining reliable service โ and signed a collaboration agreement to advance the solarisation of public institutions, including healthcare and educational facilities.
Against that backdrop, the switch of the Government House from the national grid to a mini-grid demonstrates the administration’s readiness to embrace alternative energy solutions capable of delivering consistent and dependable electricity โ and to lead by example.
The initiative is particularly significant at a time when unreliable electricity supply continues to undermine economic activities, public service delivery and the operations of government institutions across Nigeria. With the mini-grid now in operation, the Government House is expected to enjoy improved electricity stability, reduced dependence on the national grid and enhanced operational efficiency.
Governor Lawal’s administration has consistently demonstrated a determination to confront inherited infrastructural challenges through strategic planning, innovation and purposeful leadership. The adoption of mini-grid electricity at the Government House is a practical demonstration of this commitment, reflecting a leadership philosophy that prioritises results, efficiency and the collective interest of the people.
The development further reinforces the governor’s broader vision of repositioning Zamfara State for sustainable development through investments in critical infrastructure, renewable energy, security, education, healthcare and economic advancement. It also demonstrates the administration’s willingness to take bold decisions in pursuit of improved governance and better living conditions for residents.
The Government House mini-grid, together with the 37 REA-backed projects and the new Electricity Policy, is expected to serve as an important reference point for other public institutions and state governments seeking sustainable solutions to electricity challenges. Beyond its immediate benefits, the initiative sends a strong message about the importance of energy independence, technological innovation and responsible management of public resources.
Governor Lawal deserves commendation for his unrelenting efforts and selfless service to the people of Zamfara State. His administration’s commitment to rapid transformation, infrastructural renewal and sustainable development continues to demonstrate the importance of visionary leadership in addressing the challenges confronting the state.
As Zamfara pursues its development aspirations, the Government House’s transition to mini-grid electricity โ set within a statewide push of 37 solar mini-grids, a new Electricity Policy and the solarisation of public institutions โ stands as another indication of Governor Lawal’s determination to build a more efficient, resilient and prosperous state. The commencement of the mini-grid system today is not merely an electricity project; it is a bold statement of purposeful leadership, innovation and the governor’s unwavering commitment to the transformation of Zamfara State.
