The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere has praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital in Ondo State, describing it as a significant step forward for healthcare delivery and medical education in southwestern Nigeria.
Speaking at his Akure residence while receiving the hospital’s management team led by Chief Medical Director Professor Olusegun Ojo, Afenifere’s national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, said the facility would improve healthcare access for residents of Ondo State and surrounding areas while boosting medical training and stimulating economic growth in the region.
“We cannot quantify our joy because this FUTA Teaching Hospital is going to be a thing of joy forever, with multiplying effects and benefits for the community and the Southwest region as a whole,” Fasoranti said. “I want to thank the President for making this teaching hospital a reality.”
The Afenifere leader expressed confidence that the hospital’s establishment would strengthen Tinubu’s political standing, noting the president’s previous visits to the group. “Now, the establishment and kick-off of the teaching hospital is a booster to the president of this country,” he said, adding that Tinubu has “a very bright chance” in the 2027 election.
Professor Ojo praised Afenifere’s leadership, particularly Fasoranti, for their instrumental role in bringing the hospital to fruition. He emphasized that the facility’s creation resulted from genuine commitment rather than chance.
“Your insistence that this dream must be fulfilled while you are still alive was not born out of personal gain, but out of a genuine desire to secure a better healthcare future for generations yet unborn,” Ojo told Fasoranti, acknowledging his recommendation for Ojo’s appointment as pioneer CMD.
The CMD pledged that his team would build on the established foundation to ensure the hospital achieves its intended objectives.
