Tanzanian musicians Juma Jux and Folex have expressed gratitude for their recent triumphs at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held in Lagos, highlighting how the prestigious platform has elevated the international profile of African talent.
The artists spoke during a stakeholders’ forum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where music industry professionals convened to evaluate AFRIMA’s influence on the East African creative landscape.
At the gathering hosted at Urban by City Blue Hotel, Juma Jux—who claimed the East African Artiste of the Year (Male) award at the 9th AFRIMA—reflected on how the achievement had reshaped his professional trajectory.
“Winning AFRIMA changed a lot for me,” Jux remarked. “People who never spoke to me before now reach out. Being on a stage watched in over 84 countries gives you a new level of visibility and responsibility.” He emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between AFRIMA and Tanzanian governmental bodies to maximize opportunities for local artists.
“When institutions work hand in hand with platforms like AFRIMA, artistes benefit more through exposure, training and knowledge sharing,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian music director Folex, honored as Best Music Video of the Year for directing Juma Jux’s Ololufemi, described the accolade as life-changing. The Lagos event, he said, introduced him to valuable professional connections and enriched his creative perspective.
AFRIMA Associate Producer Victoria Nkong underscored that the awards program has evolved into more than a simple recognition ceremony—it now serves as a vital developmental engine for Africa’s creative community.
