The Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP) has called on the Bank of Industry (BOI) to establish a lending framework that would allow filmmakers to use intellectual property, including film rights and scripts, as collateral for production loans.
The proposal was tabled on Monday, July 20, 2025, during a courtesy visit by an AMP delegation to the BOI’s Lagos headquarters, led by the association’s National President, Amb. Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson.
She was accompanied by Vice President Hon. Shan WalkerGeorge, National Secretary Mr. Anthony Chukumah, and National Welfare Secretary Miss Gloria Okafor.
The team met with Dr. Olasupo Olusi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry, to discuss the persistent challenge Nollywood producers face in accessing credit. Filmmakers have long struggled to leverage creative assets for funding, leaving many productions undercapitalised and limiting the sector’s growth potential.
Dr. Olusi described the initiative as timely and welcomed the association’s proposal, but noted that accepting intellectual property as loan collateral would require policy direction from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He advised AMP to formally engage the CBN to initiate the regulatory process, giving assurances that BOI would move swiftly to implement the framework once the appropriate directive is issued.
During the visit, AMP presented Dr. Olusi with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his sustained support for Nigeria’s creative sector, particularly Nollywood. The association also conferred on him the title of Patron of the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria.
“We appreciate the MD’s open door and his understanding of what creatives need to scale,” Ebigieson said following the presentation. “With CBN’s backing, this IP-collateral framework will unlock real financing for our members, strengthen Nollywood, and grow jobs in the sector.”
The move comes as stakeholders across Nigeria’s creative economy intensify efforts to position the industry as a viable destination for structured financing. If realised, an IP-backed lending model could significantly alter how Nigerian film projects are funded, enabling producers to monetise intangible assets that have traditionally held little weight with conventional lenders.
AMP says it remains committed to engaging government institutions and development finance partners to build what it describes as a “sustainable and bankable film industry.”
