Ukrainian authorities have announced the death of another Nigerian national allegedly fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The deceased, identified as Ayebusiwa Olabode Victor, was reportedly killed during combat operations while serving with the Russian military. His death adds to the growing list of foreign nationals said to have joined the Russian side since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified.
According to reports from Ukrainian officials, Victor was among several foreign fighters recruited into the Russian armed forces to support military operations in Ukraine. Details surrounding the exact location and circumstances of his death were not immediately disclosed.
The development comes despite repeated warnings from the Nigerian government advising citizens against participating in the Russia-Ukraine war. Nigerian authorities had earlier cautioned citizens against travelling to conflict zones or enlisting in foreign military operations, stressing that such actions could endanger their lives and violate international laws.
In recent months, reports have surfaced of Nigerians being recruited into the Russian military, with some allegedly lured by promises of financial rewards, residency opportunities, or other incentives. However, concerns have continued to grow over the safety and welfare of those involved in the conflict.
