Anthony Joshua Eyes Ring Return Ahead of Prenga Fight Amid Personal Tragedy

Anthony Joshua Eyes Ring Return Ahead of Prenga Fight Amid Personal Tragedy

**Headline:** Insecurity: Military Can Track Bandits Like Ordinary Citizens – Buratai Calls for Stronger Capacity Building Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (retd.), has expressed confidence in the ability of Nigeria’s security agencies to track down bandits, insisting that if they can locate ordinary citizens and social media users, they should also be able to trace criminal elements. Buratai made the remarks during an interview on TVC, amid growing public concern over recent abductions, including the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, where a teacher was reportedly killed by the abductors. According to him, the security challenges facing the country may not necessarily be about lack of capacity alone, but also point to the need for improved training, recruitment, and overall strengthening of the system. “I don’t believe security agencies cannot locate bandits if they can locate ordinary citizens and social media influencers,” he said. He added that more personnel are needed across the security architecture, stressing the importance of continuous recruitment and retraining of soldiers and police officers to improve operational effectiveness. “We need more troops, more operatives, more policemen recruited, trained and retrained,” Buratai stated. Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State may have been politically motivated, suggesting it could have been staged to discredit or blackmail the government. Fayose made the claim during an interview on Channels Television, where he also questioned the timing of the incident and raised concerns about possible political undertones. He further suggested that the incident might be linked to efforts aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu’s administration, though his comments remain allegations and have not been substantiated.

The Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, will not rely on defections to win the 2027 presidential election. He recently revealed that President Bola Tinubu will record significant success in the South-East during the next general elections.

Speaking during TVC’s “News Journalists’ Hangout,” Kalu shared that the party’s increasing strength in the South-East is the product of consistency, sacrifice and hard work.

According to him, the South-Easterners are very much ready to ensure President Tinubu and all APC candidates perform well in 2027, especially in Abia State.

He stated that amid all of the ongoing noise in Nigeria’s political space, the result will speak for itself when the time is right.

“We are not relying on defections to win. We are relying on hard work. Politics is about commitment and results, not noise.

We are on the ground and determined to ensure that President Tinubu and all APC candidates perform well in 2027, especially in Abia and across the South-East,” he said.

Orji Kalu further expressed confidence in Tinubu’s reform agenda, stressing that it is a necessary process that will yield positive results despite present hardships.

Recounting how he was ridiculed and called names when he was the only South East politician to identify with the APC in 2016, he noted that standing his ground was worth it in the end.

“Reforms come with the good, the bad, and the ugly. Nigerians are feeling pains, yes, but these pains will lead to long-term gains.

I have already sponsored a bill on social welfare and investment to reduce poverty, and will meet the President to fast-track it. We must show Nigerians that we have them in our hearts.

When I joined the APC in 2016, I was the only South-East leader in the party.

People mocked me, called me names, and thought I was mad to have joined a party that had no governor or lawmaker from our region.

But I stood my ground and kept assuring the party leadership that it would be well. In 2019, I became the first senator elected on the APC platform from the South-East, and today the story has changed.

We now have APC governors, senators, and House members across the zone,” he added.
