(Apples Bite Magazine) YENAGOA – Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, has died at the age of 60 after collapsing on Thursday, plunging the state into mourning.
The tragic incident occurred around 1:30 pm while Senator Ewhrudjakpo was working in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa. Eyewitnesses reported that he appeared to be in serious condition when emergency responders rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
Despite efforts by medical personnel at the hospital’s emergency unit, the deputy governor could not be revived. Sources familiar with the situation suggest the collapse may have been cardiac-related, though no official cause of death has been confirmed.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo was a former federal lawmaker who had served as Bayelsa’s deputy governor since 2020, working alongside Governor Douye Diri. Those close to him had often described him as a dedicated public servant with an intensive work schedule.
Security personnel secured the hospital premises following the incident, and several top government officials rushed to the medical facility upon hearing the news.
As of the time of reporting, neither the Bayelsa State Government nor the late deputy governor’s family had released an official statement regarding his death. Attempts to reach his media aide, Doubara Atasi, for comment were unsuccessful.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his death are still emerging. The state capital has been gripped with shock and grief following the sudden loss of the prominent political figure.
