President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s backing for countries in the Gulf region as tensions escalate over the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
He made this known in Abuja while receiving letters of credence from newly appointed foreign diplomats representing nations including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, alongside envoys from Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and Congo.
During the ceremony, Tinubu assured the diplomats that Nigeria stands in solidarity with Gulf states such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan. He commended their measured response to the crisis and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The president described the diplomatic engagement as a key opportunity to deepen Nigeria’s ties with other countries, urging the envoys to strengthen bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.
Speaking on Nigeria’s economic outlook, Tinubu highlighted ongoing efforts to make the country more attractive to investors, pointing to opportunities in infrastructure development, economic expansion, and diaspora participation.
On regional affairs, he reaffirmed Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly in promoting democracy, enhancing intra-regional trade, and tackling insecurity in the Sahel.
Tinubu also stressed that global challenges such as climate change, energy security, terrorism, and inequitable financial systems demand collective international action.
He concluded by stating that Nigeria remains committed to working with other nations—both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms—to foster a more secure and equitable global environment.
