Comedian and actor Bovi has stirred up the perennial Messi-Ronaldo debate, warning that a person’s stance on the rivalry could expose how they handle facts — and by extension, how trustworthy they’d be in a business deal.
In an Instagram video posted Wednesday, Bovi said he’d use the question as an unofficial vetting tool before entering any partnership. He clarified that liking Ronaldo, or even calling him the GOAT, isn’t a problem. The red flag, he said, is someone who flatly insists Ronaldo is the better footballer than Messi.
“If you want to get into business with someone you don’t know so well and you’re going to invest your money together, ask the person who his favourite footballer is,” Bovi said. “If he says Ronaldo, you might still want to do business with him. If he says Ronaldo is his GOAT, that’s perfectly okay. But ask him between Ronaldo and Messi who is a better footballer. If he says matter-of-factly that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi, pick up your shoes and run.”
He argued that people who hold that view tend to bend obvious reality to fit personal bias — a trait, he suggested, that doesn’t stay confined to football arguments and could easily spill into how they handle money and obligations in business.
The comments have since triggered fresh debate online, with fans once again split over football’s most enduring rivalry.
