President Bola Tinubu has assured Abuja residents that his government will keep tackling their “one chance” problem with reforms in public transport infrastructure.
He recently revealed that he understands the fears of terrified residents and their concerns have been heard by the Federal Government.
Speaking through Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja, Tinubu declared that the newly built terminal, along with the previously commissioned Mabushi terminal, will help put a stop to chaotic public transport in the FCT.
According to him, the Mabushi and Kugbo International Bus Terminals are of global standards, and they perfectly align with the development goals of transit-oriented cities, smart mobility, compact living spaces, and parking management.
He stated that Abuja residents will no longer experience one chance incidents by the roadside, stressing that their many years of living in fear is finally over.
“We heard your concerns, we understood your fears, and we acted. With your compliance, you will no longer suffer from one chance by the roadside.
You will all agree with me that the Mabushi and Kugbo International Bus Terminals meet with global practices, meet with global principles of sustainable urban development in the area of transportation, and automatically erases ugly experiences of chaotic public transportation in our capital city, previously fraught, but long with challenges.
The terminals align with development goals of transit-oriented cities, smart mobility, compact living spaces, parking management, willing support of stakeholders and citizens, and ultimately transforming lives,” he said.
Tinubu further noted that the construction of the terminals is part of his pledge to the people via his Renewed Hope Agenda, to revitalise Nigeria’s infrastructure while boosting security and efficiency across the nation.
He concluded by praising Nyesom Wike for the efficient use of public funds ever since he assumed his current position.
“The decision of my administration to prioritise high-impact transportation infrastructure, among which is this bus and taxi terminal, is premised on the undeniable fact that no nation—no nation—around the world, has been recorded to have made any noticeable progress without modernisation and expansion of its critical public mobility and public utilities,” he added.
