Employers across Newfoundland and Labrador are launching a series of virtual recruitment events aimed at connecting skilled international professionals with Canadian job opportunities and immigration pathways.
The upcoming virtual session, scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, will run from 18:00 to 22:00 GMT (2:30–6:30 PM Newfoundland Standard Time) and is open to qualified candidates worldwide, particularly those exploring migration to Canada.
Event Details
According to the province’s official website, the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between local employers and international talent.
“If you’re interested in building your career and a home in Canada, our virtual immigration events are here to help! We’re bringing together employers from across the province of Newfoundland and Labrador that are looking for skilled workers like you,” the announcement states.
Participants are encouraged to upload current résumés, which will be shared with hiring companies throughout the province. Approved employers can then review submissions and contact candidates whose qualifications match their workforce requirements.
Full registration details are available on the province’s immigration portal.
Strategic Timing
The recruitment drive comes as Newfoundland and Labrador positions itself as an increasingly attractive destination for foreign workers, particularly as other Canadian provinces scale back immigration programs.
Recent provincial immigration changes include:
- Ontario permanently closed its Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream in November 2025 due to fraud concerns
- Saskatchewan suspended its Entrepreneur and International Graduate Entrepreneur categories in March 2025 with no reopening date
- New Brunswick ended its Express Entry Student Connection Pathway and Skilled Worker Priority Occupations stream in February 2025
- British Columbia paused its International Post-Graduate Stream and related student pathways until allocation levels are restored
What Candidates Can Expect
The virtual events offer more than simple job matching. Attendees will gain:
- Direct access to employers across multiple sectors
- Insights into in-demand skills and occupations in the province
- Guidance on immigration processes and requirements
- Networking opportunities with companies actively recruiting international talent
The résumé-sharing system aims to eliminate traditional recruitment barriers by creating a centralized talent pool that employers can access directly.
Organizers have indicated that additional events will be scheduled on an ongoing basis, with new dates posted regularly on the event page. This points to a sustained, long-term recruitment strategy rather than a single engagement.
Broader Context
As Canada continues leveraging immigration to fuel economic growth and address persistent labour shortages, provincial governments are increasingly competing for global talent through targeted recruitment initiatives.
Newfoundland and Labrador’s proactive approach demonstrates how regions are adapting their immigration strategies to meet local workforce demands while offering international professionals viable pathways to Canadian residency.
Interested candidates should visit the province’s official immigration website for complete information and registration.
