The City Boy Movement has distanced itself from Adepoju Babatunde Salako following reports of his fraud conviction in the United States.
Salako was said to have been sentenced to about 18 months in prison in connection with a wire fraud scheme involving the 2022 Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) programme.
In a statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, the group described attempts to link Salako to the movement as false, misleading, and politically driven.
The organisation stressed that Salako has never been a member, officer, or representative of the movement at any level—national, zonal, state, diaspora, or international.
It further stated that he was never authorised to act on behalf of the group in any capacity, including as a coordinator or spokesperson, in the United States or elsewhere.
The movement said it was compelled to clarify its position due to what it called ongoing efforts to associate it with criminal proceedings involving Salako abroad.
According to the statement, earlier reports on the case did not mention the group, questioning why new narratives were attempting to connect it to the matter.
It also referenced reports linking Salako to another pro–Bola Ahmed Tinubu support platform, arguing that such conflicting claims showed deliberate misinformation.
While noting that it was not interfering in Salako’s legal situation, the group said he is entitled to due process and a fair hearing.
However, it maintained that it would not accept any attempt to falsely associate its name or reputation with individuals who have no connection to its structure or activities.
