CNN is expected to announce the layoff of several hundred employees Thursday, US Media reports.
Its part of a plan to lower the cost of production and move towards digital products. The Warner Bros. Discovery channel could move shows produced in Washington and New York to its Atlanta headquarters, lowering production costs.
In October, CNN said it would begin asking a monthly $3.99 to access its news website. Users in the United States would pay the “small recurring fee” in order to gain unlimited access.
Separately, Comcast-owned NBC News is also expected to begin more limited lay-offs with numbers put at 50.
In the United States, news organisations including The Washington Post and Associated Press have recently announced staff reductions.
