Angela Okorie. Nigerian actress and musician is being held at Suleja Correctional Centre following her court appearance on cybercrime-related charges in Abuja.
According to reports, officers from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre apprehended Okorie in Lagos on Tuesday evening. She was transported to Abuja early Wednesday morning and brought before a court, which ordered her remand.
Filmmaker Ajemba Stanley verified the arrest through multiple Instagram posts, criticizing what he described as misuse of authority in the case.
“Arresting Angela Okorie late Tuesday night, flying her to Abuja at 6 a.m., and getting her remanded in Suleja prison by Wednesday morning—suddenly the system moves at lightning speed?” Stanley wrote. “How can anyone rest easy knowing their colleague sits behind bars? This is what power abuse looks like.”
In a follow-up statement, Stanley urged authorities to release Okorie and pursue proper legal channels. “If someone believes Angela has defamed them, file a lawsuit through the appropriate court system instead of weaponizing police against citizens,” he said, noting that civil defamation cases belong in civil courts, not criminal proceedings.
Sources suggest the arrest may be connected to fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who recently issued a public statement declaring zero tolerance for online harassment targeting her family in 2026.
