Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has triggered new conversations around safety on film sets after a shocking incident left him hospitalised.
Godwin revealed that he recently got kicked in the chest by a colleague, believed to be Zubby Michael, during a scene on set.
Speaking via his social media page, he shared that the kick wasn’t even in the script, but his colleague’s freestyle sent him to the hospital.
The moviestar said that even his director was surprised when the kick happened during the shoot, and the sudden impact caused him serious pain that required quick medical attention.
According to him, despite the tragic incident being no fault of his, he was still left alone to pay for his medical bills, and he received no financial assistance from the Nollywood crew he was working with.
He then urged Nollywood actors to avoid unscripted acts that can be dangerous during movie shoots, noting that the lack of insurance policies or readily available first aid should always be taken into consideration.
“During a scene, I received a kick to the chest from my colleague that wasn’t part of the script or directed by the director. It’s caused me serious pains. Had to get medication for my chest to feel better today. I did all these by myself. No assistance!
When we’re working without insurance policies or readily available first aid, unexpected physical actions like this, even if accidental, can have real consequences… What if something more serious had happened?” he wrote.
His management has since come out to confirm that Godwin’s state of health has worsened in recent days, sharing that he is presently undergoing treatment for internal bleeding.
Confirming that it was Zubby Michael who kicked Godwin, a press statement disclosed that the actor was actually rushed to the hospital due to the intense pain he was feeling.
“We regret to inform you that Actor 1/3 Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening. He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding following an incident involving a kick on the chest during filming with his colleague Zubby Michael,” it read.
