Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has urged corps members to fully integrate with their host communities and respect their socio-cultural lifestyle.
He recently charged the corps members to discharge their duties with diligence throughout their stay in Akwa Ibom.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Youth Service Corps Batch A Stream II, at the orientation camp in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Eno revealed that the corpers must serve their fatherland with dedication and as good ambassadors of the nation.
According to him, the students must do everything within their power to contribute meaningfully to nation-building, and he can only encourage them to make good use of the skills they acquired during the orientation course to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
“Please be assured that Akwa Ibom State is highly hospitable, you only need to integrate yourselves with the people, be respectful to their socio-cultural inclinations and aspirations, even after the service year,” he said.
He further emphasised that importance of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity and development, stressing that the corps members should take their responsibilities seriously.
He concluded by urging the corpers to accept their posting in good faith and make efforts to settle down as soon as possible at their places of primary assignment.
“Let me admonish you not to travel at night, for whatever reason. Please, find a corps lodge, police station or military barracks to sleep, once it is after 6pm in course of your journey.Almost all the lives we have lost in the scheme have been as a result of night travel,” he added.
