The 10th Assembly of the Agege Legislative Council has accepted the resignation of the Council Chairman, Hon. Tunde Azeez Disco, and confirmed AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as the substantive Chairman. AbdulGaniyu, who was the Vice Chairman, was recently appointed chairman after Azeez stepped down citing health challenges that have hindered his ability to perform his duties.
The councillors appreciated Azeez for his committed service and wished him a speedy recovery.
During the plenary session, lawmakers also carried out a strategic review of the council’s committee system and oversight functions, emphasising boosting transparency, accountability, and project tracking across the local government.
The Assembly reiterated its commitment to delivering development-driven programmes to residents of Agege under its renewed leadership and legislative oversight framework.
Confirming AbdulGaniyu’s appointment, Rotimi Sulaiman, an APC Chieftain, disclosed that his principal resigned to take care of his health.
He concluded by saying that AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa is a visionary young Nigerian who has proved himself capable of taking over from where the previous chairman stopped.
He said, “Hon. Tunde Azeez has been long sick and his decision to resign and devote his attention to his health rather than being weighed down by the responsibility of that office is the wise decision any sane person should take.
The beneficiary of that excellent decision, AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa is a visionary young man who in the last few months of Azeez’s absence has demonstrated uncommon capacity.
I think Agege is lucky to have both guys,” he said.
AbdulGaniyu’s takeover has stirred controversy among opposition parties, which claim it reflects a pre-arranged political plan.
Recall that the move to make Obasa’s son the APC candidate during the July 12 local government election was strongly opposed by some stakeholders in the local government.
