The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million, with one surety in like amount.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the ruling on Monday, outlining stringent conditions attached to the bail application.
The court ordered that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must reside within either the Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja. The surety is also required to present the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property, which must be deposited at the court registry.
In addition, the court directed that the surety provide proof of salary payments for at least three months, supported by verification from a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction. The surety must also submit an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph.
As part of the conditions imposed on El-Rufai, the court ordered him to surrender all valid international passports to the registry. He is also required to submit a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months and a verification letter from the relevant government department of the surety.
Furthermore, the former governor has been directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters on the last Friday of every month at 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the case is concluded.
Justice Abdulmalik warned that any breach of the bail conditions would lead to immediate revocation. The court also instructed that a letter of attestation be obtained from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council and submitted as part of the documentation.
