A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties for failing to meet constitutional performance requirements.
The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu while deciding a suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026.
According to the court, the affected parties have consistently fallen short of the constitutional benchmarks required for their continued recognition as political parties in Nigeria.
The parties listed in the judgment are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
The development is expected to have political implications for several prominent figures associated with some of the affected parties, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
